If you're a regular reader of personal finance blogs, you've probably heard of SmartyPig, a new online social savings service. There have been a plethora of posts that review SmartyPig; I could give a review, but I think I'll let the other 40 posts that can be found on pfblogs.org do the talking for me.
Now for the good stuff. We have a $50 SmartyPig giftcard to give away to one of our readers. To enter to win, leave a comment and let us know what you're saving for. We'll pick a winner by using the random.org's random number generator. This contest will close next Monday, April 14 at 9:00 pm CDT.
Good luck!

What aren't we saving for? We're paying down private student loans so that hopefully we can start saving for a house and children. But we'd also like to save for some furniture that doesn't look like we picked it up by the side or the road. That would be our main short-term SmartyPig-type savings goal.
Well that depends if you are talking all term or short term.
Short term I am saving for a digital camera. The bf and I have seemed to loose ours and we definitely need a new one.
Long term I am saving to pay off my law school student loans. Boy do they pill up so that I am buy a house, a car, or anything which would be a huge financial investment.

Saving for a slipcover for the hideously-ugly and multiply-stained couch that a friend of the family gave me for free when I moved into my new apartment. It seemed like a good deal until I realized how much slipcovers cost.

We're saving to adopt a baby -- can't use Smary Pig for that though since the timeline is unknown and we can't use a debit card for most of the expenses...but $50 could offset a tiny bit!

We put all our money into our savings account anyway but it would be cool to do Smartpig, earn some extra cash and put the money back in our Capital One account.
Fingers crossed for the $50!

This is a big year for our family. We are saving for all the expenses for our senior graduating from high school. We have cap & gown, senior portraits, senior prom, graduation announcements and etc. He also became an Eagle Scout and we are waiting to do his Eagle ceremony when we get enough money to have family & friends attend. I can't leave out my 5th grader who is graduating from elementary school as well.

What am I saving for? Well, I need furniture for my post-college apartment. Unfortunately, most of my family has gotten rid of their old furniture for their new homes, so there's no furniture to pass down.
Also...Grad School is rather expensive.

We're saving to have a baby. I plan to quit my job once that happens, which will cut our annual income by $35K, so we've spent the past 2.5 years getting all our ducks in a row (paying off debt, starting the emergency fund and learning to live frugally). Unfortunately, we just experienced a miscarriage, but we hope to start trying again as soon as possible. However, we'll now be more prepared for the costs since we've spent the last two months looking at cribs, designing the nursery and researching the cost of diapers.
