December 2006 Net Worth - Happy New Year, Happy Birthday To Us

It is hard to believe that we posted for the first time a year ago. This year we're not hungover (much), and we actually spent our New Year's Eve in our apartment with each other, bypassing much more expensive options. I'd love to say that was done on purpose, but we actually decided to wing it, and ended up not going out.

Much has happened in the past year, but I'll get to highlighting everything in tomorrow's post. Without further ado, here's our net worth statement for December 2006:

Yes, our savings went up drastically again this month, primarily because of my winter bonus. Instead of shoving that all towards wedding savings, we're plotting on how we want to make some good use of it.

My employer also deposited their quarterly contribution to my HSA. How nice of them.

Our investment accounts didn't do so well this month. Even more reason for us to get our asses in gear and work on the joint portfolio. Good thing we've already started.

So far we're starting the New Year on the right foot.

It was nice to see the November/December comparisons. How about a post with Jan/Dec comparisons to show the whole year's progress?
Happy New Year!

Came across this from a flickr post someone made about new years resolutions... Have you guys checked out Dave Ramsey on the radio? or ever heard of him? I just did about 2 months ago and have been hooked as I have been fighting with Dept now for almost 4 years since I graduated from school. his ideas towards money and dept is common since stuff yet has had a major impact on how I look at money and how I have been living my life dealing with it... You can check out his website too at daveramsey.com...

Cheers,

Scott

Whenever I get a bonus/windfall/tax return, I try to divide it by thirds, a third to savings, a third to bills, a third to fun money (vacation, new clothes, etc). sometimes the percentages are skewed a little more toward savings and/or bills, but I like to get some satisfaction out of getting unexpected money.

It is hard to stay so diciplined and focused toward paying bills and saving money day after day, this is a nice way for me to enjoy a extra thing or two without guilt.

So is your wedding savings reflected in your net worth? If it is, increasing your net worth by 32K this year is going to be darn hard considering 2006, if it isn't, it will only be pretty difficult :) Good luck on your resolutions, I am looking forward to "coming along for the ride". Happy New Year!

I want to see the facts on how much it's costing you to put all your money into a savings account for a wedding instead of paying off that credit card debt. Your wedding savings are the same as your emergency savings, as best I can tell. And if you have enough to simply pay off your credit card debt, i don't understand why you wouldn't just do that. Once it's done, save maybe $1500 for an emergency fund, you can grow your savings so much faster without worry about all the interest you keep accruing on your debt.
I was in the position of having a combined $3000 of cc debt back when we got engaged. Even though saving for our wedding took a bit longer, it was so much smarter to take care of our debt first.

Why aren't you using the savings to pay off the Credit Card? When is the wedding?

I've been watching your posts and your Upromise balance. I've accumulated over $1,500 so far. How are you folks earning your money there?
