Clippers Are For Animals

Much has been made of Him's habit of getting rather expensive haircuts. We've had no real defense for this luxury purchase…until now. I recently came across a blog entry about a barber in New York who has been cutting hair for sixty-five years. That's a long time! He seems trust-worthy, like a sweet old grandpa. And according to him,
"Cutting with clippers is for animals."
So there we have our official rebuttal.

I was one of the guys giving him grief for spending $35 on haircuts (when you carry credit card debt). That said, this barber you linked to runs a place around the corner from me on 27th St. between Lexington and 3rd. He's an old neighborhood fixture. As far as I can tell, however, this guy does about 1 haircut a month, since I always see him and his wife sleeping in the barber chairs. Also, he evidently still thinks it is 1932, as he still sports the unpopular Hitler-style toothbrush moustache.

Maybe clippers are for animals, but I haven't seen many barbers in NYC that charge $35 per haircut. More like $10-$15.
